WHEP, initiated by the French Académie des sciences, is a GID international scientific programme.
WHEP plays a supporting role in national projects that contribute to the improvement of health for all via the education of women in developing countries.

Closely working with the Senegal Académie des Sciences et Techniques, and under the patronage of regional, national and international authorities, WHEP is carrying out a pilot project on Health Education in a rural school environment, as part of the Senegal River Basin development project: "Health along the River"
Unsafe water is responsible for 80% of disease throughout the world. More than 3 million people die annually, victims of diseases caused by using unsafe water. 90% are children under 5 years of age. 450 million individuals who are suffering from diseases, transmitted by vectors associated with water live in sub-Saharian Africa.
Where education and infrastructures are inadequate, water is a bearer of life but also of disease. To bring about a change in behaviour, it is indispensable to take into account the parameters of sex and age. From childhood onwards, women are at the centre of all domestic usage of water. Women bring about change when the information they receive is relevant and adapted to their daily lives. Schoolchildren can provoke change when the family environment is favourable.
Going with the flow to health
An innovatory project based on both the school and the family to teach the day-to-day actions for prevention of disease.
